... oh my, this is a bit embarrassing... Tongue

Intel P4 @ 2.80GHz
512MiB of ram (gotta check the speed, the /proc/ dir is a labyrinth Cheesy)
500GB SATA harddrive (the only modern part i have changed to on this old DULL Dimension Smiley)
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (128MB AGP 8X Embarrassed)

I just keep on waiting for that new CPU or mobo, and never come around buying any new component (except for the harddrive, cus' the sound from the old one started to make me nervous... Grin)

But I'm planing to build a new pc soon (and only keep the old hd). I were waiting for the Phenom CPUs, but now they just doesn't seem to exciting... Sad

Basically, the only modern game I play is Portal, and I think any modern rig should work with it, so I pretty much just want to build a pc myself, and get some better hardware compatibility (both in linux and windows), plus I could really need some faster compiling times (I like compiling custom linux configs)

Arny, I think (hope) even you know that your random/pointless insults are not that funny anymore, why do you keep on doing those kinds of meaningless offtopic hijacks? Undecided

If you want to start some new argumentation (like FF vs. O, or GPLv3 vs BSD etc...) lets start a separate thread, instead of trying to hijack some random topic...

btw: if you meet dragoon or someone from the planetrollcage forum, could you tell them about this forum? Wink

Yeah man, stop going off topic. It Seriously stops progress in the Project.

I am back now after having the next major operation, all went well and healing up nicely. Just been getting really bored with sitting around so going to think up some nice track designs in Photoshop so we can start to think about scales and how to start to model them in a 3D package. Never know I might actually start building one in Maya. I have designed quite a few maps in Hammer for HL and CS so I have an idea of what makes a good 3D level.

Anyways, hope to see more of the old guys coming back and some new ones as the new site is now indexed on Google so fingers crossed more peeps will pick up on it. Still no word to when the old SMF forum @ planetrollcage will be back up, even though I got an email from the webmaster saying it will be soon. lol

Just a quick question, have you decided on a format for tracks? And when I'm still writing this, what about scale, or are we just going to experiment with it for now? (scale and similar can (with some work) be changed by editing the configuration files that are available in the 0.02 proof-of-concept, so anyone should be able to play with it Wink)

Na not decided on scale yet, will prob just over scale it so that it can always be scaled down which is alot easier than scaling it all up.

Only just got my net back after few days of down time so, still getting a decent 3D design program, will prob end up using 3ds max. There are loads of tutorials and with my background I can soon adapt it to getting a few concept designs going. Might be a bit basic to start off, but have to start somewhere... lol... Need to keep myself busy, cant do to much walking at the moment after the surgery so, what better than to have to sit on my ass and design a game lol. Perfect hey.

Cant wait to have this baby going!! Will let you buys know how it is all coming along. PS, it is nice to finally have a forum that is getting used, well a wee bit.

Nice to see a project like this. Decided to play a game of Rollcage for the first time in like 3 years and after some research I found out about this project.

My rig:
Intel Core2Duo E6750 (2.66 Ghz)
GeForce 8800 GTS
2GB Ram DDR 800 (Corsair)

As long as there is some simple way of writing a 3d-file loader for the format that is chosen for 3D, then I'm happy... Wink

About a dream rig, I'm thinking about getting something with a (Intel) GMA X4500 around summer, since Intel have good documentation of their chips (so that things will work good for open source software, without any nvidious proprietary drivers).

I'm planing to go with a 4 core cpu, other than that, does anyone got any recommendations?

yeah most 3d games engines work with loading up most of the major 3d file formats. But dont worry, saving the complied 3d files in a different file format is easy with 3ds max, as it can use a plugin to compile to different formats.

The main thing is to get some content going for the project. Then we can think about standardising everything in the game and doing a professional job.

As for the hardware man, You sound like you are doing all the right things. I would maybe look at getting 2 fast small sata drives and RAID them and keep the OS and things like that on them. OR if you can afford it, 2 SSD drives, then just a nice whopper of a drive for storage. The thing I would say to do if you are going to dual boot, is to read the EEE Pc Windows XP slimming guides, and tailor it to your system. Take out most the drivers from the XP install and slim it down. Also get the memory foot print down and then you will have the best of both worlds. Would be a great rig for testing the different parts to RCX too.

It is also nice to see we have a new member too, lets hope that Forza has some coding skillz or something to offer to the project. It is nice to see peeps finding and still looking for the next Rollcage game. Means the job I did on getting google to spider the site better worked lol. Go ME!!!

Oh and forgot to say, RC2 works on EEE Pc's real nice. I was playing it when I was in Hospital, kept me sane... Runs really smooth. Great little machine the EEEpc.

Actually in my case it was not google that got my attention for this site: the wikipedia entry did the job! As for what I can offer: I fear it will not be a lot. Though I have followed some rudimentary programming course (in Pascal/Delphi) I lack a lot of experience and do not want to dedicate my time to expand these basic skills. I prefer to spend time on studying. Let's just say I have some basic ideas of what the game should be like and I will try to give my input when it is needed.

Yeah the WikiPedia pages are pretty cool for peeps coming to the site. Getting quite a few referrals from there, which all helps.

Yeah also if you wanna suggest some ideas that would be great, any kind of input is welcome as this is ment to be a Community Project. Would be cool if you could maybe do a little bit about what you think should be in it, as you said you did have some ideas.

Anyways, it is quite late here. So going to shoot off and catch 40 winks.
